If you would like to taste a real Japanese DORAYAKI, You should try Suzumeya.
Suzumeya is one of the most popular DORAYAKI store in Tokyo. The store is at Ikebukuro, it takes 5 minutes on foot from JR Ikebukuro station.
You know, Ikebukuro is one of the biggest station in Tokyo and the look of the town is very modern. But when you walk a few minutes to the east-side of the station, you can find some old town street scene. Suzumeya is there. Suzumeya’s store entrance is very small and tiny but you can feel the special taste of Japan old town building. Also maybe you will find a long queue in front of the store.
The below sparrow object is a mark of Suzumeya because ”Suzume” means ”a sparrow” in Japanese.
Look more! So cute! hahaha!
Anyway when you come into the store, you will see some Japanese wagashi sweets at store-front.
There are Mochi, Manju, Monaka and so on. But You should choose DORAYAKI without hesitating!
DORAYAKI is the left one on above picture. It is 180 yen. Not so expensive.
A lots fresh sweet red bean paste called ANKO is inside and this DORAYAKI is not too much sugary. Moderately sweetish ANKO makes you eat as many as you like!
And also the two small pancakes sandwiching the ANKO are very fluffy and chewy.
You really should try Suzumeya’s DORAYAKI when you come to Tokyo!
